Liz Fernandes

Upon graduation from the Bellahouston Academy in Glasgow, Scotland. Elizabeth Fernandes skated full time at the Paisley Ice Rink. There she earned her Silver Figures and Freestyle medals. In addition, she won the Scottish National pairs title under the tutelage of Olympic coach Margaret Vernal. After her competitive career, she toured the world for 15 years with the professional ice show, Holiday On Ice. Fernandes was offered the position of head coach with the Sao Paulo Figure Skating Club in Brazil. She was also director of the Brazilian division of Holiday on Ice.

After eight years in Brazil, LCSC welcomed Fernandes to the coaching staff in 1992. Since her arrival she has built a successful career based on her positive and encouraging coaching style. In particular, she tries to instill the love of skating in her students. Fernandes feels that her greatest accomplishments have been the success of her skaters, many of whom she coached from beginning tot-level skaters in group classes through the highest levels of competitive figure skating. She is very proud of the skaters that she has coached, from Regional champions and Sectional and Junior National competitors to U.S. Figure Skating Gold medalists and international technical specialists. She feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a part of their success. Fernandes is a member of the Professional Skaters Association and is a category “A” coach which qualifies her to coach at the Regional, Sectional, and National levels. Furthermore, she has helped to bring international awareness to Hamilton Center with many skaters from Brazil choosing to visit and train with her throughout the years at our wonderful facility.

Heather Lehnert

LCSC welcomed Heather Lehnert back to the ice at Hamilton Center in the spring of 2016. Lehnert, who is a LCSC alum, trained here as a competitive skater and is the newest member of our coaching staff. Nevertheless, she is quite familiar with our programs. She has maintained ties with the facility throughout her professional career. For example, she had the opportunity to bring high-level skaters to train in Columbus, including the German Senior Ladies National Champion. Lehnert coached in several U.S. locations before moving to Germany in 2007. There she served as the state coach of figure skating in Chemnitz, Germany where she oversaw the development of the elite athletes, organized training camps and workshops, traveled internationally with the team, and assisted the national coach. As a technical specialist for the International Skating Union (ISU), Lehnert has extensive knowledge of the international judging system. She holds the ISU’s highest-level qualification as a technical specialist. This allows her to travel world-wide to competitions and ensures that she is abreast of the latest rule changes for the sport.

Lehnert earned a Masters Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Management from Indiana University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Figure Skating through the Individualized Major Program at Indiana University. Her course of study provided her with knowledge in a variety of areas, including biomechanics, kinesiology, dance, marketing, management, and programming. She has also successfully completed the Professional Skaters Association Senior Free Skating Coaching License, Certified Moves-in-the-Field License, and Master Sport Science Exam. Her professional experience and figure-skating background combined with her academic training and familiarity with the environment has enabled her to make a significant contribution to our club. Most importantly, she enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for skating with our members.
